What is Computer ?
Computer is an electronic device that can take raw data
(facts and figures) from its user, process it according to the instructions
provided and deliver the processed data, the usable information or output. For
example, using device for performing sum of integers/numbers is a form of
computing, where integers/numbers and addition of them is the data, the facts
and figures i.e. input, performing this task is processing and supplying the
results is the processed data, the information or output. Full form of COMPUTER
is Commonly Operated Machine Particularly Used for Trade, Education and
Research.
Computer consists of two parts : Hardware and Software.
Hardware : The tangible part of the computer that can be
touched and seen is categorised as Hardware. Hardware can be further
categorised as follows:
CPU : CPU is Central Processing Unit that consists of
Arithmetic and Logical Unit (ALU) and Control Unit (CU). This is the Brain of
Computer.
Memory : Memory unit stores all the data and information.
Memory is further categorised in two parts : Primary Memory and Secondary
Memory.
